Stanley "Caveman" Yelnats IV is the protagonist of the 2003 live-action film, Holes.
Background[]
"Stanley" is "Yelnats" spelled backwards, and because of this, many members of the Yelnats family have been named Stanley, including Stanley's father and grandfather. Stanley is a good-hearted teenager born to a luckless family who have been cursed for years. He is a very responsible, nice, caring teenager. It is revealed that he cares about Zero. He is the luckiest of the Yelnats descendants.
Appearances[]
Holes[]
After being tried and 'proven' guilty of stealing Clyde "Sweetfeet" Livingston's shoes, he was sent to Camp Green Lake, a detention camp in Texas run by Warden Walker. It is revealed that he cares about Zero. Ironically, it was Yelnats' acceptance of Zero that lifted the curse on his family and led to the proof that he was innocent.

Holes is a 1998 young adultnovel written by Louis Sachar and first published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux. The book centers on Stanley Yelnats, who is sent to Camp Green Lake, a correctional boot camp in a desert in Texas, after being falsely accused of theft. The plot explores the history of the area and how the actions of several characters in the past have affected Stanley's life in the present. These interconnecting stories touch on themes such as labor, boyhood and masculinity, friendship, meaning of names, illiteracy, elements of fairy tales,[1] and racism.[2]
The book was both a critical and commercial success. Much of the praise for the book has centered around its complex plot, interesting characters, and representation of people of color and incarcerated youth. It won the 1998 US National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the 1999 Newbery Medal for the year's "most distinguished contribution to American literature for children". In 2012 it was ranked number six among all-time children's nove
