Alfieri Maserati and his brothers
It may be said that, before reaching Modenaand passing through Bologna, the Maserati story began in Voghera. This is, in fact, the city of origin of Trident carmaker's founder, Alfieri Maserati, and his brothers.
The Maserati sons, all boys, were born from Rodolfo Maserati, Royal Railways engine driver and his wife Carolina Losi. The eldest is Carlo, racing driver and motorcycle designer in the early 1900s. Followed by Bindo and the first Alfieri, who unfortunately died a few months after birth. The next son, our Alfieri, is given his name. Then there is Mario, who becomes a painter, followed by Ettore and Ernesto.
After the outbreak of the First World War, Alfieri Maserati patented a special spark plug for aviation engines, which he started building in Milan. At the end of the conflict, when Alfieri returned to Bologna, he continued the production of spark plugs, an activity which run alongside the preparation of sports cars. His brothers worked alongside him: Ettore, Ernesto and later, Bindo, when his job with Isotta Fraschini ended.

Alfieri Maserati was an Italian automotive engineer, known for establishing and leading the Maserati racing car manufacturer with the other Maserati Brothers.
Maserati was born in Voghera. In 1903 he and his brother Bindo Maserati started working for Isotta-Fraschini in Milan, on their older brother Carlo Maserati's recommendation. He followed Carlo to Bianchi in 1905, with whom he also raced and won in 1909. On Bindo's recommendation, Alfieri and Ettore Maserati went back to Isotta-Fraschini on a mission to Argentina in 1912, returning to Italy to found the new Societa Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati in 1914.
We'll publish a biography on him on the occasion of his anniversary or when it will be reached a sufficient number of cars.

Alfieri Maserati was the second child in his family with that name, born just months after the first Alfieri died in infancy. As a young man he worked alongside his brother Bindo on the assembly line at the Italian automaker Isotta Fraschini. When business slowed at Fraschini the two brothers went into business for themselves, first making spark plugs and gradually adding other auto parts. By the early 1920s two more Maserati boys, Ettore and Ernesto, had joined the business, and in 1925 the company began designing a high-performance race car for Diatto, another Italian car company.
