Nicholas spanos biography

The Greek counter-tenor, Nicholas Spanos, took his first singing lessons with Helen Lionna and world-renowned countertenorAris Christofellis. After his Diploma in Greece (Cum Laude) he continued his graduate studies at the University of Maryland School of Music in the USA with soprano Linda Mabbs (voice) and Leon Major (stage director). He was member of the Maryland Opera Studio Park for two years. For his studies he held a scholarship from the "Friends of Music Society" in Athens, as well as an assistantship from the University. He graduated from University of Maryland College Park with a Master of Arts degree in Voice / Opera Performance (2000-2002). Next step of his academic career was the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna, Ausrtia, where he completed a post-graduate course in Lied & Oratorio performance, with Professor Charles Spencer (2012-2013). He has diplomas in Harmony and Counterpoint from the New Conservatory of Thessalonica (class of N. Solomonides). Nicholas Spanos studied with Aris Christofellis in Greece. In 2000, he continued his studies at the University of Maryland School of Music Opera Studio (USA) with teachers Linda Mabbs and Leon Major, as a scholar of the 'Friends of Music' society of Athens; he also held an assistantship from the University. He graduated in 2002 with a Master’s Degree in Voice/Opera Performance. Further studies included a postgraduate course in Lied & Oratorio with Charles Spencer in the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna.

He has participated actively in many vocal masterclasses taught by prominent teachers, such as Kurt Equiluz, Delores Ziegler, Anna Tomowa-Sintow and Michael Chance. He has been acclaimed for his appearance in opera, oratorio and recital worldwide. Both Greek and international press have always commented on his vocal and stage presence very favourably. Nicholas Spanos

Nicholas Peter Spanos[3] (1942 – June 6, 1994), was professor of psychology and director of the Laboratory for Experimental Hypnosis at Carleton University from 1975 to his death in a single engine plane crash on June 6, 1994.[4] Spanos conducted multiple studies that challenged common beliefs. He tried to distinguish the difference between common beliefs about hypnosis and what was actually occurring. These studies conducted by Spanos led to the modern understanding that hypnosis is not an altered state and is actually suggested behaviors that the participant chooses to go along with or not.[5][6] Along with this, Spanos conducted studies regarding dissociative identity disorder in which he stated that multiple personalities are not a product of trauma but are based on social norms.
