Wayne has an MPA from Harvard University’s JFK School of Government, MAs from Princeton University and Stanford University (Political Science), and a BA (Political Science) from the University of California, Berkeley.
Bio
In addition to his role at AU, Wayne is a Public Policy Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Co-Chair of its Mexico Institute Advisory Board. He is a member of the Board of the Public Diplomacy Council of America.
Wayne is a Senior Non-Resident Adviser at the Atlantic Council and at the Center for Security and International Studies. He is an active member of a number of other organizations and has an active LLC for consulting on international topics. Ambassador Wayne served as a U.S. diplomat from 1975 to 2015, including as Ambassador to Argentina (2006-2009), Coordinating Director for Development and Economic Affairs and Deputy Ambassador in Kabul, Afghanistan (2009-2011), and Ambassador to Mexico

An accomplished diplomat and executive, Ambassador Wayne served in a wide variety of positions during his diplomatic career, including as U.S. Ambassador to Mexico and Argentina, Deputy Ambassador in Afghanistan, Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe.  “Tony” has successfully led complex organizations and teams in Washington and overseas, working to develop and implement policies involving countries around the world to solve problems and create opportunities across economic, political, security and public diplomacy issues.  Wayne left the State Department as a Career Ambassador, the most senior U.S. diplomatic rank.

Ambassador Wayne is currently engaged in a variety of activities.  Wayne is a Distinguished Diplomat in Residence and a Professorial Lecturer at American University's School of International Service, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses related to diplomatic practice, among other topics.  He serves Co-Chair of the Woodrow Wilson Center Mexico Institute Advisory Board an

Earl Anthony Wayne (born 1950) is an American diplomat. Formerly Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs, Ambassador to Argentina and Deputy Ambassador to Afghanistan, Wayne served nearly four years as Ambassador to Mexico.
