Cherríe Lawrence Moraga is a Chicana writer, feminist activist, poet, essayist, and playwright. She is part of the faculty at Stanford University in the Department of Drama and Comparative Studies in Race and Ethnicity. Her works explore the ways in which gender, sexuality and race intersect in the lives of women of color.

Moraga was one of the few writers to write and introduce the theory on Chicana lesbianism. Her interests include the intersections of gender, sexuality, and race, particularly in cultural production by women of color. There are not many women of color writing about issues that queer women of color face today: therefore, her work is very notable and important to the new generations. Cherríe Moraga is one of the most influential women in the women’s liberation movement.She has not only made a difference in the lives of women but in her own personal life as well.Ms. Moraga who was struggling to have a connection with her family, especially her mother, soon found that link when she came out as a Chicana lesbian.By making her sexual preference known, she helped herself to knock down her self made barriers and barriers of society.Her family life also helped contribute to her writing ability, by influencing her.Her ability to write, not only as a Chicana but also as a lesbian, has given Ms. Moraga a new outlook to her writing and she realizes all of the people that she can relate to.She is not only reaching out to the Chicana community but to the lesbian community as well.I believe that one of her strongest features is her unwillingness to give up.By working to create her own publishing company, she shows that is determined to leave her name in this world and that is exactly what she has done.

Cherríe Moraga^[1] (born September 25, 1952) is an influential Chicana feminist writer, activist, poet, essayist, and playwright.^[2]^[3] A prominent figure in Chicana literature and feminist theory, Moraga's work explores the intersections of gender, sexuality, race, and class, with particular emphasis on the experiences of Chicana and Indigenous women. She currently serves as Distinguished Professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Santa Barbara.^[4]

Moraga is widely recognized for her groundbreaking literary contributions and theoretical work in Chicana feminism.^[5] Her co-edited anthology This Bridge Called My Back (1981) is considered a foundational text in feminist and queer studies.^[6] Moraga is also a founding member of the social justice activist group La Red Xicana Indígena, which is network fighting for education, culture rights, and Indigenous Rights.^[7] In 2017, she co-founded, with Celia Herrera Rodríguez, Las
